So…why do we love books?

All good things must come to an end – this is our last Clew edition. We will end the Clew story with some encouragement along your expat way. Sorana encourages you to never stop reading.

“ Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home.” – Anna Quindlen

Funny thing, writing about booklove around Valentine’s Day. I suppose it is in a way appropriate, since this kind of love starts somewhere in our childhood and remains true to itself troughout our lives.

Sometimes, when reality comes knocking on our doors and we find ourselves too busy to nurture this kind of love, funnily enough we bear in mind that this love is the patient kind, resilient at times, and it never ever goes away. We always come back to it.

So much has been said about books one would think nothing of substance can be added. Classics, books with good/bad reviews, self-published books, books of all genres and subgenres – you name it, it’s out there. I don’t think there is such a thing as a bad book…well unless it’s a serious case of poor editing and/or bad grammar, but that’s another story. I guess what I’m trying to say is that we can learn something from every book we read just as much as we can learn something from every person we meet in our real life.

So, why do we read? Do we read so we can escape reality? Not so sure about that, because I believe we read to know how to live in reality. Life itself is a constant reminder we do not have all the answers. And I can’t think of a better road to take in our constant search for whatever it is we are looking for than books. In between the lines of a page there is “all that light” that we can still see.

As long as books will be published, we’ll never feel lonely and as long as we continue to travel, regardless the means of transportation, I guess we’ll always be guests (and not spies)  in the house of booklove.
